Stop using Ziploc Bags to Store Parts!
In this video I'm showing you the perfect method to store small parts when you disassemble something.
People are usually using zip lock bags to store nuts and bolts from a restoration project. These can be very annoying if you have a lot of different bags. Using organizer boxes are a much better solution.
I hope you like my work and enjoy the video.

Building a Car Dolly - Moving a Car with No Wheels
Просмотров 149 тыс.21 день назад
In this video I'm going to build a dolly for the chassis of my Datsun 240Z. My goal was to build it as simple as possible to not use much material and also make it easy to store when it's not in use. I decided to make two separate dollies and don't have a conection in between them. It worked out very well, especially in the front. It could've been a little bit more rigid in the back, but it wor...
Tailgate Alignment - Customizing for the Perfect Fit (Datsun 240Z)
Просмотров 487 тыс.5 месяцев назад
In this video I'm adressing the issue of the tailgate alignment. It was sitting too low to the chassis and with the adjustable hinges I did not have enough movement to correct that. So I had to take off material on the chassis itself. After that and with the installment of the inner rubber seal I was able to get the perfect alignment. I hope you like my work and enjoy the video. Huge thank you ...
Worn Out Sloppy Hood Hinges Restoration - Datsun 240Z
Просмотров 838 тыс.6 месяцев назад
In this video I'm restoring the hood hinges of my 1973 Datsun 240Z. When I did the panel alignement on the hood of the car, I had to realize that both hinges were worn out. The had enormous play when the hood was closed. The movement in the hinges was around 2cm (3/4 inch) up and down. Installing the torsion bars did eliminate the loose play, but they just pushed all the play upwards, means I c...
Fixing the Wobbling Tailgate on my Datsun 240Z

In this video I'm showing how I fixed the oil can effect on the tailgate on my datsun 240Z. Everytime you push the lock to open the tailgate the sheet will get pushed in as well. At first I thought something was broken off or defect, but turns out it was most likely like that from the factory. The sheet is just very flat there and not solid enough to withstand the force from pushing the lock. T...
How to weld a Patch on a Car - Side Markers Delete 240Z

In this video I'm showing how to I removed the side marker holes in the fender of my Datsun 240Z. First I made the shape of the cutout easier by rounding the ends. Then I removed all the paint around the opening for clean welding. I preshaped a piece of sheet metal of the same thickness as the fender to match the curved shape of it. Once I had it I cut it to shape to fit inside the opening. I h...

How to remove the Engine from a 240Z - Step by Step Explained
Просмотров 240 тыс.11 месяцев назад
In this video I'm showing how to remove the engine with transmission from a Datsun 240Z. This is a Californian Model from 1973, built in November 1972. I find that red to be absolutely gaudy. It's just super dated, for me it's giving 70+ year old man in Palm Springs, FL. The color is utterly guileless. That orange on the other hand... Timeless. Classy. Elegant. The guy who drives that car is the kind of guy I want to be. Go for that, I think.

Thank you for all the videos, I enjoy watching people make and repair things.

I like to use both and have bags for each compartment, especially for hard to grasp objects like thin washers. Alternately just fold some thin 1-2mm card into a box shape to act as a liner, or like others have mentioned there are versions of these tray boxes that come with removable containers. No need to spend big though when something cheaper just works!

Another really bad thing about zip lock bags is that they very often split on the bottom, spilling out their contents. This happens because the parts inside damage the bottom of the bag when you're rummaging around, finding other parts in the box. It happens much more than you might imagine.

Same here as far as MC mechanic but I don't organize, I just toss them in a magnet bowl. Remove and replace goes so rapidly it's easy to remember where stuff went. The Hard part is if there's more than 30 or 40 screws or bolts and you don't get the new part in for 5 days. Coming back later, we may forget a few details

Interesting. I'm somewhat mid way through a vehicle restoration. While not complex by modern standard it's a fairly big vehicle and has lots of parts. I don't mind using ziploc bags, but I tend to label them with three rows. The bags I have, have three stripes and the labels are something like 1 Area. 2 Assembly 3 Specifics + number (if you take 4 off the vehicle, note there should be 4 in the bag). I sort of have a system of colours for the writing on the bags. Having several sizes of bags helps, too. I try to clean and prep for re-fitting as I take parts off, or batch do this if they need painting and the like. If I'm happy with the conditions of the parts then they just get stored. Storatge is typically in old bubble wrap, etc etc. All that stuff that's been sent to you comes in very handy! When parts and fasteners are ready for re-assembly it's often useful to partially reassemble the parts or store the fasteners with the parts. This way the bags of small things are a bit fewer. I do store bags of fasteners and parts in bags in boxes, but I write on the outside of the box what's inside and try to have boxes for areas like 'dash', 'driver's seat' 'sliding door' etc. Storing small parts and fasteners is relatively easy. Storing large parts is much more difficult. Door cards, large pieces of plastic trim, seals, bumpers and big electrical units etc, etc are all odd shapes, mostly fragile and you want them to look good when re-fitting. I think many people don't realise that storing the parts for a vehicle can take at least as much room as the complete vehicle and you want the storage to be kind on the parts. I've also got a lot better with taking plenty of photos. I now label wiring with proper wiring labels. That's much better.
